The dates span the time from 1780 to the onset of General Registration in 1837. The original card slip index contained over 12 million entries but was unfortunately destroyed during a World War II bombing raidand only entries for 22 London parishes survive. The card-slip index is held by the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, Canterbury, Kent.
