The 1790 Census was taken on 2nd August, however, unlike the UK census, enumerators had 9 months in order to complete the task. There was no fixed format for the returns. The 1790 census asked five questions: the number of free white males over 16 years old, free white males under 16, free white females, other, and number of slaves.
