WINSLOW
A SAD SCAMP - Geo. Foskett, labourer of Grandborough was on the 12th instant brought before Philip Dauncey and E W S Lowndes Esqrs, at Winslow, charged by Mr R Gurney, relieving officer, with having on the 9th instant neglected to supporthis wife, whose accouchement had taken place a few days previously. The worst features of the case was, that the worthless fellow not only neglected to go to work that was ready for him, but actually took the food which had been provided by the relieving officer for his wife's use, and consumed it himself, without giving her any portion of it. He begged tp be forgiven, and promised never to do the like again. The magistrates, however, thought that a husband who had so acted was not the man to be dealt with leniently, and they sentenced him to three weeks hard labour in Aylesbury gaol.
