Thomas Comley, of Harrow on the hill, Licensed Victualler; William Lancefield, of Harrow on the hil, also Licensed Victualler, John Bliss, of the same place, Licensed Victualler; John Nicholson, of the same place, Licensed Victualler; and George Foskett, of Weald in the parish of Harrow, Licensed Victualler, were all summoned by James Gregg, inspector of weights and measures, of Boston Road, in the parish of Brentford, “For that they did sell a certain quantity of beer to the said James Gregg, as, and for one quart, and one pint respectively, and in the sale of such beer did use certain vessels or measures other than those authorised by law, and which on examination by the inspector, were found to be deficient”. Mr Herring appeared for all the defendants.

The charges were dismissed after Mr Herring stated that the defendants could not be held responsible for the vessels - it was the responsibility of the wholesalers. Judge agreed and awarded costs to Mr Herring.
