Notes for: John FOXCOTE

First appears in Great Horwood Manor Court Rolls in 1405 when he and his wife Agnes are in receipt of land from Richard and Katherine Hunt, possibly Agnes' parents. His name appears regularly in the Manor Rolls for the next 30 years. His son Richard inherits his land holdings in 1437.

Richard Hunte and his wife Katherine surrendered the reversion to a messuage and two ½ virgates of land, one called Hyldyffes and the other Symondes, for the benefit of John Foxcote and Agnes his wife. Regranted to John and Agnes holding to themselves and theirs according to the custom of the manor for the services due and customary, excepting Katherine's rights of dower during her life. John paid entry fine 6s 8d. [no mention of fealty)

John Foxcote paid fine <12d> to have in exchange from William Chirchey ½ acre of land ext' in Synkelburghbrorkes and 2 roods in le Portwey, William to have 1 acre of land ?similarly (siml') lying at Goreweysmor, in perpetuity, having and holding according to the custom of the manor.
At same court: Richard Chirchey jun complainant against John Bekke <2d> in a plea of trespass, who was attached and pledged by John Foxcote and John Cabbell but has not come, therefore etc. Ordered etc.

Her son John is her next heir by blood and, present in court, did fealty and acknowledged himself to hold the messuage and land according to the custom of the manor for the ancient rents, works and customs. He paid no fine because he paid one with his parents William and Isabel at their entry as is found by inspection of the court roll

John's son and heir Richard took the toft formerly John Giffard's, Holding to himself and his according to the custom of the manor for the ancient rents and services. Paid entry fine 3s 4d. Fealty. The 2 messuages and 2 virgates of land remain in the lord's hands, the reeve to answer for the issues.
