On Wednesday last, a singularly distressing circumstance occurred at Kingsnympton, near Southmoulton. The Rev Mr Foskett, another gentleman, and a servant, were out shooting in a boat, on the river, and got near a weir in which a breach had been formed by the current: Mr Foskett warned the servant to avoid the breach, but t seems either that the caution was disregarded, or that they were already too near to it to retreat, for the boat was immediately drifted by the stream into the vortex and sunk. Mr Foskettt who was a good swimmer, rescued his friend from death, by landing him safely, but seeing his servant yet struggling in the water, he again plungewd in to his assistance, and paid his life as a sacrifice to his humanity - both sunk to rise no more! Mr Foskettt was about 25 years of age, had lately taken orders, was Curate of Nympton St George, and most highly respected. His family and friends, as may be supposed, are in the most poignant distress.
