1841 Living in parental home in Odell.
Charles was charged with Sheep Stealing and sent for Trial on 7th Dec 1849 at Bedford Assizes. He was found guilty and sentenced to 7 years transportation and penal servitude. He was transferred from Bedford Gaol to Millbank 29 Jan 1850 to await transportation. He departed from Plymouth, England, on 4 Nov 1852 and arrived in Tasmania on the "Oriental Queen" on 19 Feb 1853, prisoner number 768.

He is next found in Tasmania in 1853 when he applies to marry Maria Lugg on 24 Oct 1853. However, permission does not appear to have been granted as on 12 Jun 1854 she again applied to marry to a John Hopkin. Charles does not appear to have returned to England at any time.
