He served 9 months in the 11th Mass Light Battery of Artillery during the Civil War. After the war he went in to mercantile work in NY city and in 1916 was a salesman of Woolen Goods.From his marriage he lived in NY City and Brooklyn, NY; Chicago, IL; Cranford, NJ and again in Brooklyn in 1916.
