Notes for: Edmund FOSGATE

The parentage of Edmund is still a little uncertain. He is living in the household of Adelia Smith, a daughter of Ezekiel & Vashti Fosgate, together with Serene Fosgate another daughter. Given only this information, there is an argument that Edmund is the son of Ezekiel and Vashti, possibly the male age 10-15 appearing in the 1840 census with them.
One argument against him being a child of Vashti is that she would have been 45 or 46 at the time of his birth, nearing the end of her child-bearing years. However it is not so unusual as to make this an impossibility. Another factor in placing Edmund is that after 1850 he moved west and closely associated with Samuel FOSGATE. Is Samuel his older brother or his father? Samuel may be a bit young to be EDmund's father, but he does have a male in the right age group living with him at the time of both the 1830 and 1840 census.

Edmund was a blacksmith and a farmer.
