The Wheelock graveyard is located to the rear of the site of the homestead of Abigail's father Thomas D Wheelock, Sr on the west side of the Old Westport Road. The gravestones of both Joel and his son John are of slate, horizontal, covering the entire grave. Obviously more costly than the conventional headstones of the time, they would indicate that either Joel or the Wheelock family was of some affluence. Joel's stone is engraved Joel Fosgate/Died/January 1839/AE 54/.
It is possible that there were other children of this marriage.
