Notes for: Nathaniel Adams WALCOTT

He attended the Boston public schools and Bryant and Stratton Commercial College and then entered the employment of J V Farwell & Co, wholesale drygoods dealers in Chicago, IL. He left there in 1888 to establish a furniture business in Portsmouth, NH, under the name of Portsmouth Furniture Co., and retired in 1900. He went to San Juan, Puerto Rico in Nov 1901 and began fruit raising, having a large plantation of grapefruit and pineapples.
Mr Walcott is past commander of his camp of the Sons of Veterans, member of the Sons of the American Revolution, in Massachussets, and of the Society of Colonial Wars, in New Hampshire. He is a member of St John's Lodge, No 1, AF & AM, at Portsmouth; charter member of Baringuein Chapter, No 1 RAM, San Juan; member of Davenport Council, No 5, R & SM, at Portsmouth, and of Porto Rico Commandery, No 1, Knights Templars, San Juan. He organised the latter Commandery and was Commander three years. He is also a member of the San Juan Consistory, No 1 A & A Scottish Rite, 32, San Juan; and a member of the International Police Conference. He was United States Commissioner for the District of Porto Rico 1916-1918' Food Commissioner of Porto Rico during the World War, in charge of the Department of Agriculture; and chairman of the Insular Commission, overnment of Porto Rico, since 1901, his address being Box 15, San Juan, Porto Rico.
