He was in the 1870 census for Dummerston, VT age 56 born VT; his wife Hannah age 52 born VT; dau Rosa age 17 born VT; son Frederick age 27 born VT. There
is some doubt about Alpheus' parentage. There was an Alpheus born in Leominster, MA 27 Oct 1804, the son of Alpheus and Pamelia (Rice) Stewart.
The Hildreth Family Association says he was born Shelburne, MA 05 Apr 1803 with no parents stated.
