He began as a merchant in the town of Porter but later moved to a farm in Parsonsfield, ME. He studied for the ministry at New Hampton, NH, ordained at S Wheelock, VT and after 5 years he moved to Limington to care for his wife's father. He married first in Parsonsfield on 3 Dec 1846 to Hannah Edgecomb b. there 09 Mar 1826 and d. there 24 May 1855. He M/2 04 Nov 1855 Clarinda Elizabeth Neal who d N. Parsonsfield 03 May 1861 age 32Y9M9d. 2 children by these wives: Frank b 02 Jun 1850 and Wedgewood Neal b 02 May 1860.
