Notes for: Beriah OAKS

Notes for: Beriah OAKS

He served at the Lexington Alarm 1775 in Capt. Longley's Company, Colonel Whitcomb, being discharged April 14, after 10 days service. He also served later, before June 26 and may have been at Bunker Hill. He was a prosperous man but died before the age of 40. The income of his estate was left for the support of his aged parents & was distributed in 1795 after their death. Inventory taken 22 Mar 1781.

His children and grandchildren were all workers in wood as well as farmers. It was said that an Oaks house could be recognised by the chips and shavings and this was largely true of other branches as well.

The children under age 1795 were appointed guardians:
Elnathan Polly was appointed guardian of Daniel, age 19, and Phebe, age 16.
Bezaleel Hale Jr of Stow was appointed guardian of Eunice, age 17, and Beriah, age 14.
