He learned the trade of gunsmith in the US Armory at Springfield, MA where he resided for many years. He then moved to Farmington, CT where he carried on the business of gunsmith. From thence he moved to Ashford where he was engaged in the same business. He afterwards moved to Middletown, CT where he resided for 13 years. He invented and manufactured a kind of steel - yards. In one of the Ashford books there is a picture of his house.
