Newspaper Notice 01 Jul 1996: Woodstock - Howard W Foskett, 91, of Route 169, died Monday evening at the Westview Convalescent Home and Rehabilitation Center, Dayville. He was born in East Woodstock, son of the late Frank W and Bertha (Carr) Foskett and lived in Woodstock most of his life.

Mr. Foskett was a charter and life member of the Muddy Brook Fire Department, and a member of East Woodstock Congregational Church. He was the oldest living member of the Woodstock Agricultural Society, serving as president for two years, superintendent for 42 years of the sheep, goat and swine division of the Woodstock Fair, founder of the Woodstock Market Lamb Club; member of Putnam Lodge 46 of Masons in South Woodstock ; life member and past master of the Senexet Grange 40.
Mr Foskett was in charge of the Eastern States Exposition Sheep Sept., Commercial Sheep Sheerer in the tri-state area, and also made hand sheering demonstrations at Woodstock Fair and Old Sturbridge Village. He also taught sheep sheering.
He retired in 1965 from the Prudential Insurance Co. after 30 years as an agent.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Catherine M (Munro) Foskett, a son, Kenneth N Foskett of Thompson; two daughters, Eleanor M Faneuff of Webster and Joyce M Potter, both Thompson; two sisters, Katherine Foskett of Southbridge, MA, and May Johnson of Glen Falls, NY; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

WOODSTOCK FAIR '96 - August 28, 1996

Howard W Foskett, 91, of Woodstock, died Monday, July 1, 1996 at the Westview Convalescent Home, Dayville. He was born in East Woodstock and he had lived in Woodstock most of his life. Mr. Foskett was a member of the East Woodstock Congregational Church.

At the time of his death, he had been the oldest living member of the Woodstock Agricultural Society, serving as president for two years. Mr. Foskett had been the superintendent of the sheep, goat and swine division of the Woodstock Fair for 42 years. He was founder of the Woodstock Market Lamb Club.

In 1994 The Connecticut Sheep Breeders Association established two annual youth awards, one of which is offered each year in Mr. Foskett's honor. Winners are determined based on the highest number of points attained at the Bridgewater Fair (western regional state fair) and the Woodstock Fair (eastern regional). Possible points that may be obtained are as follows: fitting and showmanship performance, 30 points; breed or market lamb, 25 points; sheep and wool promotion of exhibit, 25 points; and attitude and appearance, 20 points.
